Company and power plants

What does Elestaş Elektrik do?

Founded in Istanbul in 2003, Elestaş Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. generates electricity from renewable sources. Its main activities are electricity generation, electricity sales and trading, construction and operation of power plants, and the production and sale of organic fertiliser. The company also generates and sells carbon certificates based on the output of its renewable plants.

How many power plants do you have, and what is your installed capacity?

Our portfolio has 18 power plants: 9 hydroelectric, 7 solar, 1 wind and 1 biogas. Installed capacity in operation is 142.45 MWm / 129.36 MWe. Details of every plant are on the Power Plants page.

Where are your power plants located?

Our hydroelectric plants are in Trabzon, Sivas, Ordu, Kahramanmaraş, Isparta and Çankırı; our solar plants in Afyonkarahisar, Eskişehir and Şanlıurfa; our wind farm in Hatay; and our biogas plant in Beylikova, Eskişehir. The map on the homepage shows every location.

What is the difference between MWm and MWe?

MWm (megawatt mechanical) is the power of the generating equipment: the turbine for a hydro or wind plant, the panels for a solar plant. MWe (megawatt electrical) is the power that can actually be fed into the grid. The difference comes from conversion losses and the connection capacity. For solar plants, panel capacity is often also given in kWp (kilowatt peak).

Do you invest in battery energy storage?

Yes. We are planning a 20 MW / 40 MWh battery storage system at the Orhanlı wind farm and a 35 MW / 70 MWh system in the Ottoman solar project. Storage lets us hold energy generated when output is high and supply it to the grid when it is needed.

What is a hybrid power plant?

A hybrid plant adds a second renewable source under the same licence and grid connection. At the Beylikova Biogas Plant, a total of 1.90 MWm of rooftop and ground-mounted solar has been added without changing the plant's installed capacity, increasing its generation.
