In line with its vision of environmental sustainability, Elestaş Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. generates carbon credits through the renewable energy it produces and the projects it undertakes, and certifies this process under internationally recognised schemes.
Carbon credits are valuable environmental assets, tradable on international markets, that are earned from projects carried out to reduce, offset or fully eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.
1. I-REC
International Renewable Energy Certificate
- Purpose: To document renewable energy use and track it transparently.
- How it works: One I-REC certificate is issued for every 1 MWh of renewable energy generated. Companies and individuals can purchase these certificates to reduce their carbon footprint or to prove their use of renewable energy.
- Scope: Valid worldwide, with the aim of accelerating the transition to renewable energy.
2. GCC
Global Carbon Council
- Purpose: To independently verify the emission reductions of climate projects and issue carbon credits for them.
- How it works: A project's emission reductions are measured against the GCC standard and verified by an independent body; the resulting Approved Carbon Credits (ACCs) can be traded on the voluntary carbon market.
- Scope: A voluntary carbon programme based in Qatar, covering projects such as renewable energy. Our solar plants and Orhanlı wind farm are going through GCC certification.
3. VCS
Verified Carbon Standard
- Purpose: To independently verify carbon reduction projects and to track the carbon credits they generate.
- How it works: The emission reduction effects of projects are measured, verified by independent bodies and certified. The resulting carbon credits can be traded on the voluntary carbon market.
- Scope: Covers a wide range of project types, notably forest conservation, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
